The Common Application: September 2013

The Common Application
School Officials Update         September 2013
It was great to see so many friends and colleagues during the NACAC conference last week. The Common Application session was so popular that we were asked to repeat it.

The feedback posed by counselors who were present was thoughtful, collegial, and instructive. Based on their comments, we are actively exploring how to clarify processes surrounding print preview, fee waivers, self-reported testing, and essay pasting.
New 'Known Issues' Page
To keep you and your students apprised of our progress in resolving issues with the application and recommendation system, we have added a Known Issues Page to our Help Center. Please visit this resource for the latest on login errors, payment problems, Naviance and Parchment integration, and more.

Check SPAM Filters
When you submit a question to the Help Center, you will receive an immediate response that acknowledges
receipt of your question. If you are not getting these messages--or any others--it may be possible that our messages have been blocked by a SPAM filter.  All support emails come from . Make sure that domain is on your email program's safe list to ensure that you receive the messages from our Help Center. We encourage you to share this information with your school's IT staff.

Avoid College Names in Recommendations
When you use the Common App Recommender System to submit a School Report or Teacher Evaluation on behalf of a student, that form and the accompanying letter are sent to all colleges to which the student submits a Common App. Since you cannot retrieve a form once you click submit (it's like dropping it in a mailbox), make sure you understand that anything you put in your letter--including the name of a single institution--will be seen by each and every college to which that student applies.
