Increasing your Accountability (Bring Your Laptop)

Dr. Russell Sabella - Past President American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Professor, Florida Gulf Coast University

Dr. Madelyn Isaacs – Past President of FSCA Professor, Florida Gulf Coast University

Increasing your ACCOUNTABILITY helps school counselors build on their knowledge of the Florida Frameworks and ASCA National model to incorporate evolving roles with Response to Intervention (RtI). All data driven models have in common the need for both formative (judgments while a program or intervention is on-going) and summative (judgments about the outcomes of a program or intervention) elements. Specifically this workshop will introduce concepts common to the ASCA National model, RtI, and action research and provide ways of thinking about data. Simple data collection and presentation methods will be discussed with examples from both RtI and school counseling program evaluation.

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Practical Approach for Counselors to Set Goals and Measure Results

Nan Worsowicz, Supervisor, Duval County Public Schools

Joni Shook, District Level Counselor Guidance Services, Duval County Public Schools

Florida school counselors are required to complete an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) each year. See how Duval County has turned this requirement into an excellent means to report on your school counseling goals and results. Nan Worsowicz, Supervisor, and Joni Shook, District Level Counselor, have found a way to “kill two birds with one stone” by revising the format of the IPDP to address the work of school counselors. Participants will have the opportunity to practice by analyzing data, developing goals, and creating strategies as a part of this workshop. Detailed handouts will be provided, including samples of IPDPs and results reports.

Susan Gertel, past president of FSCA and William Boone High School Counselor

School Counselors and RtI
