register-hereCommon Core has arrived. At a brief glance it may seem that counselors do not need to concern themselves with this roll out. We believe the opposite. Counselors are—and will continue to be—an integral component of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) implementation. This presentation seeks to introduce school counselors of all grade levels to the CCSS. Topics includes learning about the CCSS, how they will impact teaching and learning, and how they will be implemented in the upcoming years. An easy-to-understand framework for explaining the CCSS to students and parents will also be provided. The CCSS will impact academic and career counseling and will present new challenges for students as the rigor of the coursework increases significantly. This presentation will provide counselors with strategies to meet these challenges. Participants will leave this interactive presentation with their hands full of pertinent, understandable, and instantly applicable materials and a direction for integrating the CCSS and its impacts into their practice.
Note; This will be an abbreviated version of our presentation at the Florida School Counselor Association's Annual Convention.
