Orange counselor a finalist for national School Counselor of the Year

Linda Martin, who has led guidance services for Palm Lake Elementary in Orlando for 20 years, is a finalist for the national School Counselor of the Year award.
She is one of five counselors who have been chose by the American School Counselor Association as one of the top guidance professionals in the nation.The award honors counselors who have been innovative, effective, taught leadership and advocacy skills and helped students.
Martin works daily with students in classroom guidance lessons on topics such as character development and leadership. She founded "Kids Who Care," a student service-learning group that has improved the school, visited nursing home residents, helped local families and supported Nkomo Primary School, a sister school in South Africa. That included an in-person visit by Martin and Palm Lake teachers, parents and students.
